Our New Location in Lake Linden, MI

Location:  RailDreams has moved to our new location in Michigan's beautiful and historic Keweenaw Penninsula. Located in the Western Upper Penninsula of Michigan, the area is known as the Copper Country, this area was the site of America's first great mining boom, in the 1840's even before Sutter's discovery of gold in California. It is also the site of some of the first narrow gauge railways in the U.S. pre-dating Colorado's famous lines by several years. RailDreams is housed in an over 100 year old commercial building (built in 1888 just after the great fire of 1887 nearly totally destroyed Lake Linden). Lake Linden is in the heart of the Keweenaw National Historic Park, and was a stamp and saw mill town for the famous Calumet & Hecla Mining Company. The town is approximately 10 miles north of Houghton City, the home of Michigan Technological University, on M-26 (Calumet Street).

On your way to our offices you will pass through several historic copper mining mill towns with place names such as Ripley, Dollar Bay, Mason, Tamarack City and Hubbell. RailDreams is located at 319 Third Street.

The Houghton County Historical Society is also located just outside of Lake Linden on M-26, and has a working 36" gauge live steam operation called the Lake Linden & Torch Lake RR which is used to tell the story of the giant Calumet & Hecla copper mill which was once the hub of Lake LInden. The steam loco, C&H #3, used to operate on the propoerty where she now runs. For more information on the LL&TL RR and the Houghton County Historical Museum and Museum click the following link: www.houghtonhistory.org

RailDreams has also located the new Carpentry Shop on the second floor of the Bosch building, where Lindell Chocolate Shoppe is located, now owned by RailDreams, Inc. founder Richard Taylor, MMR.

The Lindell Chocolate Shoppe is on both the Michigan and National Register of Historic Places. We could fill this page with more about Lake Linden and our new home area, but we welcome you to come and discover it for yourself! For more info on Lindell check this link

The Lindell Chocolate Shop just across M-26 from the RailDreams workshop... good ice cream, candy, and restaurant and bar too!
